How our Dog Champ Ended Up in an Animal Shelter

Our dog Champ spent a couple days in an animal shelter...

And was SOOOOOOOOO happy to see his family!

He's not used to being in an animal shelter cramped kennel when he can run free on his own 40 acres...chasing cows, chickens, even birds at times.

Yep, Champ is a strange dog - but OUR strange dog!

Usually, when I come home from running errands or grocery shopping...

Champ is in our driveway wagging his pathetic stub of a tail with that cute dog smile...

But not this time.

So right away I thought the worst.

You see, Champ has a really bad habit of chasing cars...and biting at tires.

We've tried everything to break him of this - but nothing has worked.

He even got hit by the garbage truck once and broke his leg...but he STILL chased cars with a cast on his hind leg!

I've always warned my kids that chasing cars will be the death of Champ.

So I immediately searched up and down our road looking in the ditches for him to either to be injured or dead.

But he was nowhere to be found.

My kids noticed right away when they got off the school bus that Champ wasn't there for his daily race with the bus!

So we all searched...

on foot...

on bike...

and by car...

And of course we called all the neighbors to see if anyone had seen him.

No luck.

My Oldest Daughter Had an Idea...

Rachel, twelve years old at the time, pleaded with me to call our local animal shelter.

Honestly, I thought this was a waste of time and didn't want to get the kids' hopes up.

We live out in the country and it's not like there are dog catchers driving around looking for stray dogs.

But the kids were relentless...so I made the call to the animal shelter.

And was THRILLED to hear that they DID have our Champ!

OH Happy Day!

You never realize how much you love your dog until something happens to him. Even my husband was upset.

So all 5 of us hopped in the van and headed to the local animal shelter 10 miles from our house to rescue Champ from cramped living.

The animal shelter had taken Good care of our Champ...and we were SOOOO grateful.

Most Kids LOVE Animals

Why not encourage your kids to get involved in helping out at an animal shelter?

I guarantee - they'll jump at the chance!

It's a great way to teach them the value of tithing their time and talents - and lots of FUN too!

My kids and I had a blast helping out with a doggie food drive for our local animal shelter.

We designed and mailed out cute Coins for Critters post cards asking for donations...

And watched as generous animal lovers filled our pick-up overflowing in a department store parking lot...

with dog and cat food, treats, and toys for pets.

Your Help is Desperately Needed

Did you know that 27 million unwanted animals end up in animal shelters in the U.S. every year?

All types and breeds.

But the percentage of purebred dogs in animal shelters is only 25%.

Worst of all is that 10 million of these pets are put to death every year because they are either abandoned or unwanted.

Really Sad.

Volunteer Opportunities

Animal shelters never seem to have enough volunteers or funds to accomplish all of their goals for all the wonderful animals at the shelter and the other homeless ones still "out there."

They need animal lovers like you and your kids to get involved and commit your time to making a difference.

Helping animals FEELS GOOD...

AND it's a wonderful habit to get your future millionaire kids in to DOING.

The best way to teach kids is by example.

There are ALL types of volunteer help needed...

From...

"hands-on" work with dogs and cats...

trapping feral cats for neutering programs...

clerical and computer work...

fundraising and public relations...

special events...

even landscaping work.

If you can do it, they need it done! Help out this "no-kill" animal shelter dedicated to saving all companion animals whose lives are in jeopardy.

Some Shelters Need Foster Parents

Could you take in a precious puppie or cuddly kitten temporarily?

Many animal shelters need foster parents to care for both young and old dogs and cats until they are ready to be adopted.

Foster parents are needed to house and care for orphan kittens and puppies by bottle feeding and socializing them, to house and love a dog or cat with her puppies or kittens, and to house and care for dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies that may need an extra boost of attention and love.

Become a foster parent and save lives!

Sponsor-A-Friend

If you're not able to be a foster parent to a pet...

How about sponsoring a friend?

For as little as $35.00 per month, you could help house, feed, and care for a homeless animal...

Like Trailor or Doodle...

Many animal shelters need sponsors of pets while waiting to be adopted in a permanent home.

You could do this as a regular monthly donation, or as a one-time gift.

And remember, ALL donations are FULLY tax deductible.

Donate Items for Auction

Some animal shelters, like Little Shelter in Long Island, New York even have auctions on Ebay that you can donate items to.

Exotic Animals Need Your Help As Well

One organization that I especially like is...

The Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch.

Who wouldn't like an organization with the name Black Beauty in it?!

It all began in 1979 with the airlift of 577 burros from the depths of the Grand Canyon.

One of the rescued burros, Friendly, still lives at the ranch after more than a quarter century!

Amazing.

It's a world-renowned animal sanctuary in Murchison, Texas.

More than 1,300 domestic and exotic animals live here.

Many of these animals have been rescued from near-death situations such as...

slaughterhouses...

biomedical research laboratories...

trophy hunting ranches...

circuses or roadside zoos...

or were former victims of the exotic pet trade.

Bison and cattle...

Horses and burros...

Antelope and apes...

Camels and llamas...

All have permanent, safe homes at the ranch.

It's not a zoo...

The ranch "is a place where animals are looked after, not looked at."

Get a FREE subscription to their biannual magazine when you become a member for only $10 a year... You'll join thousands of other compassionate people whose generous support enables them to rescue and tend to abused animals...

And fight for animals in the court system...

In five direct animal care centers.

So I hope you and your kids take advantage of the MANY ways to assist animal shelter efforts to save a pet, get into the habit of tithing, and have some Feel GOOD FUN!
